Dr. David Woods

David Woods, M.D. is a hand and upper extremity surgeon with Orthosports Associates, focusing on traumatic, sports-related, and degenerative issues affecting the shoulder to the fingertip. A native of Birmingham, Dr. Woods received his medical degree at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. After medical school, he completed his orthopedic residency at the University of Colorado. He then completed his fellowship in hand and upper extremity surgery at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. His clinical interests include wrist and elbow arthroscopy, wrist replacement, and microvascular surgery.

Dr. Woods is passionate about working with each patient to correctly identify the problem at hand and help restore their function.  He is thankful for the opportunity the Lord has given him and his family to serve their community in Birmingham and the surrounding areas.

Heather Irvin joined the practice as Clinic Coordinator in June 2024. With a genuine love for helping people, Heather finds her role especially rewarding working alongside a doctor who truly cares for patients.

Outside of work, Heather enjoys a wide range of movies—from romantic favorites like The Notebook and The Best of Me to the action-packed John Wick series. She has a sweet spot for strawberries, blueberries, and just about any kind of beef jerky—as long as there’s a touch of sweetness. Reese’s are her go-to treat.

For relaxation, nothing beats a trip to the beach. Surrounded by the beauty of the ocean, Heather finds herself continually amazed by God’s creation.
